Parasha Vayigash

2 Timothy {3:5-7} "5) having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. 6) They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, 7) always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth."

Today we are finding more and more Messianic Believers, and Christians, seeking after knowledge rather than relying on and putting their trust in the Holy Spirit to lead them into all truth and righteousness. I suppose they think that the more knowledge they have the more they will understand God and the more God will be pleased with them. Such people search the internet, and any other sources they can find, trying to gobble up as much knowledge as they can thinking that the wisdom of man is better than the wisdom of God's written Word (Genesis-Revelation). I would like to counter this understanding with the following teaching by showing that it is power and not knowledge that we will need as we approach the end of this age. That type of power is only obtained through the Holy Spirit working in the life of a Believer.

It took four demonstrations of power before the magicians of Egypt were defeated and three of them Pharaoh's magicians were able to duplicate. I want us to see in this the way it is going to be at the close of this age. In the Tanach (Hebrew Scriptures), there are three forms of the Satanic supernatural; the magicians of Egypt, Balaam and Jezebel. It is interesting to see that when we look into the Renewed Covenant every one of these are referred to in the context of the church.

Know this; the ultimate battle at the end of this age, which we are fast approaching, is not going to be a battle over theology or knowledge, it's going to be a battle of power; Satan vs. Yeshua.

The beginning of the history of the nation of Israel was not with knowledge, it began with a demonstration of power through the Holy Spirit, Pharaoh vs. God. As we read in the Book of Revelation 19:11-21, this age will end the same way! History began with a demonstration of power and it will end with a demonstration of power. Knowledge puffs up, the Holy Spirit powers up!

Parasha Miketz

John {1:14+18} 14) "The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. 18) No one has ever seen God, but the One and only Son, who is Himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made Him known."

Throughout the Bible God reveals His character to us. The Hebrew Scriptures, Genesis through Malachi, teach us who God is, what He likes and dislikes, what He expects from us, what He is willing to do for us, how He deals with us and how much He loves us. One of my favorite passages in the Hebrew Scriptures for getting to know God is His Thirteen Attributes found in:

Exodus {34:6-7} 6) "And He passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness,7) maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet He does not leave the guilty unpunished; He punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation."

However, no matter what we read in the Hebrew Scriptures, nothing reveals the Father more than the Son. The Hebrew Scripture told us that we cannot see God and live. However, because Yeshua is God manifested in human flesh, when we see Yeshua, we see the Father. The mercy of the Son is the mercy of the Father; the miracles of the Son are the miracles of the Father and in them we see the power of the Father; the compassion of the Son demonstrates the compassion of the Father to us, but most of all the love Yeshua displays is the love of the Father and no one ever showed love the way He did. No wonder John could say:

John 1:18 "No one has ever seen God, but the One and only Son, who is Himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made Him known."

There will be no surprises for those of us who are Believers in Yeshua and have read and studied the Word when we enter into eternity and join the Father and the Son in heaven. Yes, those of us who have made Yeshua the center of our lives and are walking in His commandments and righteousness have already seen and know the Father in the Son.

When you read the Bible, do you just read? Do you say to yourself, "I have accomplished the task of reading my Bible plan today." There is more! I am very blessed to be able to read the Bible with my husband because so many times we exchange and converse concerning the passages we have just read…this is reading the Bible! You too can do this by just meditating on what you read. Each time we read and finish our verses we say; "Thank You Lord, Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path!" (Psalm 119.105).

Now listen to this, I like this so much because God has written a book that is all beginning and never ending…go to Proverbs 6.23: "For the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light." Is this not wonderful? Do you not just love God's Word? I pray that during this Festival of Lights (Hanukkah), you will not hide your light under a basket but you will SHINE before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven! (Matthew 5.15-16) Chag Chanukah Sameach!!!

Parasha Vayeshev


Ephesians {6:13-17} "13) Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14) Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15) and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16) above all, taking the shield of faith with which, you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17) And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God"

Paul listed 5 defensive items and one offensive: The defensive is the Belt of Truth, that is the truth of the Word of God. It is from the waist that we bend, so Paul is saying that we are only to bow to the truth of God's Word; the Breastplate of Righteousness, is the full righteousness of Yeshua. The chest covers the heart and righteousness comes from a pure protected heart; Feet covered with the Gospel of Peace. Everywhere we walk we should bring Yeshua's gospel of peace, spreading His peace to everyone we meet; the Shield of Faith. A shield protects the entire body so Paul is warning us that Satan can and will attack anywhere on our bodies to destroy our faith and cause us to doubt God; the last defensive item is the Helmet of Salvation which protects our minds and thoughts. The one offensive item is the Sword of The Spirit.

Hebrews 4:12 "For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

Our soul is what connects us to the earth, to humanity; our spirit connects us to God. Only the Word of God which is our two-edged sword can cut between the two and set us free from worldly lusts and endeavors so we can serve and be connected to the Spirit of God.

If we count them, Paul mentions 6 items of warfare in Ephesians 6:13-17 and most people stop with them when quoting this passage, but there is one more offensive weapon in our arsenal, and it is by far the most powerful against unseen demonic spirits.

Ephesians 6:18 "praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints."

Prayer is our equivalent of a guided missile which can be directed anywhere we want and at anything we want. Satan's greatest fear is praying Believers. So, never start your day without putting on the FULL armor of God!

Hi Ellen here…GOD is awesome, only He is worthy of praise! Jack and I asked for favor as we traveled and of course all went well, thank You Lord. We also were prayed over by our congregation in Ashkelon, Israel and by individual friends. Although each time of prayer was different the words were similar. The prayers were filled with affirmations of God's miracles, healing and blessings…same thought but different prayers by the saints and we say; "thank You Holy Spirit!"

Anywhere we go we ask the Lord to show us who we should approach and who we should not and again He is faithful. When we arrived at the place we are staying, the Lord gave us Pauline to instruct us and show us how things work, etc. but she is also a Christian and loves Yeshua and we are praying together.

I have written before a personal note about not having a manicure since 2019 due to covid closures and shut downs. My husband gave me a gift for one here in Nairobi. My nail technician is Emma and she is a spirit filled Believer in Yeshua…thank You Lord. Emma shared her testimony as she gave me a manicure and we spoke about Yeshua for the entire time! Thank you all for your prayers as we enter into ministry in Kenya. Blessings to all!

Parasha Vayishlach

Hebrews 13:15 "By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His Name."

What a blessing to know that God inhabits the praises of His people, which means, when we praise Him, He's all over us, around us and moving through us! That is a place God likes to be! When the Priest came out of the Temple from burning the incense, everyone knew where he had been and what he had been doing because of the smell of the incense! The aroma told the story. Ever been around or in the home of a smoker? Then you know what I mean. Well, how does God smell us? Put some praise in our prayers, some perseverance and some passion in them and we will be a sweet smell, a pleasing odour to God. That is the lesson of the Altar of Incense.

Revelation {8:3-4} "3)Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. 4) And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel's hand."

Did you notice what the angel does with our prayers? This other angel, which many Bible scholars believe to be Yeshua functioning in the capacity of our High Priest, takes our incense, our prayers, and He adds to it "much incense" as He places it on the Altar. Whose incense is being added to our incense? Whose prayers are being added to our prayers? It is the intercessory prayers of Messiah Yeshua Himself, He's praying on our behalf along with us!

Hebrews 7:25 "Hence, also, He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them."

God is storing your prayers and mine in Heaven, and verse 3 says they will be offered to God along with the prayers of Messiah Yeshua for us. How do you smell to God? How is your prayer life?

What we have spoken about here is just the preparation for the opening of that 7th seal. There is an eerie silence in heaven for a half an hour, and then there is awe-inspiring supplication, and all of the prayers of the ages will be answered through God's final judgment, His Will will finally be done on earth as it is in Heaven. It will bring the once-and-for-all vindication of His Holy Name for all eternity!

I placed an image on my WhatsApp status awhile ago. It was a pleasant picture of an elderly lady and the words read, 'If only our eyes saw souls instead of bodies, how different would our ideals of beauty be.' I thought this very wonderful because as we age our skin may sag but our souls are filled with the love of God, as a Believer of course. Even better than that, when God looks at us He sees His Son! How amazing it would be if we truly put ourselves in His care and surrender to His will and ask Abba, "We want to see what You see." We do not want to see wrinkles and greying hair, we want to see hearts and souls of servants happily and willingly serving the Most High God and His children.

Just writing this I am filled with the love and joy that only comes with abiding in Yeshua. So here is what I think…close your TikTok account full of what the world thinks beauty is…close your eyes to thin girls, muscular guys, newest trends in manicures and hair and sit back and ask Abba… "I want to see what You see. I want to see the beauty of Your Holiness. I Want to see love, joy and peace. I want to see Heaven on earth. Bless you all in Yeshua.

Parasha Vayetze (And He Went Out)

Revelation {4:4} "And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats, I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold."

The identity of these twenty-four elders has been a subject of debate for many centuries. Some theologians believe them to be celestial beings, while others take them to refer to the church. While the text is not perfectly clear on the subject, it does give us some very important clues and if we search God's Word as some search for wealth, we'll find the answers we are looking for.

First, this passage tells us that the elders are clothed in white. Throughout the book of Revelation white is a symbol of salvation. If these elders were celestial beings, they would not need salvation, because unlike us they were not lost in the first place.

The second clue is the crowns they're wearing. These were not Diadem crowns as those worn by kings or celestial beings, rather John called them Stephanos crowns. My Strong's Greek/English dictionary defines Stephanos as: "A mark of royal or (in general) exalted rank; like the wreath or garland which was given as a prize to victors in public games." So, I believe these to be a crown (wreath) which is the reward of righteousness. It is the crown of the overcomers, the crown that will be given to us when we stand before the Lord and our works as Believers are judged.

The third clue is their title. Nowhere in Scripture are celestial beings called Elders. This term is used in Scripture to describe human positions of leadership.

The final clue is the number 24. King David divided the priestly tribe of Levi into twenty-four courses. Each course had their turn serving in the Temple (1 Chronicles 24). The 24 courses represented the whole priesthood.

We, as born-again Believers are called a nation of priests.

1 Peter {2:9} "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light."

In my estimation, these twenty-four Elders represent the twenty-four courses of Levites King David established, who are now serving the Lord in heaven.

What a thrill to think that one day we who have received Yeshua as our Lord and Savior and are judged righteous, will also be in heaven along with all the saints that have preceded us. But yet my heart is sad, because there are so many people, including friends and family, that still do not recognize Yeshua as their Messiah, God, Lord and Savior and have never had the born-again experience. They sadly may very well end up spending eternity in hell.

Many years ago Jack and I ministered to a single foster mom. We thought it was so wonderful that she fostered an entire group of siblings so that they would not be separated…BUT her parenting was waning thin so we helped out. We did this with many single moms and noticed one thing that was disturbing. When one is angry or saddened there tends to be words that go out into the atmosphere that are harmful. I too am to blame at times and am asking Abba to change me…but the words went out never to be retrieved again! I remember words like; "You will never amount to anything," which severely causes low self-esteem. I know we have all said this…"Are you crazy!" Who knows what root has been planted in the minds of those receiving such words? Wrong word labels go deeper than a punch or a smack! Other word labels are; "My child has mental health issues." How about; "He, or she, has a learning disability." Here is one that hurts deeply…"You are fat or you are too skinny." Maybe, as the person matures those words that have taken root in the recesses of their minds evolve into their character through acceptance of them, who knows?

When Jack and I prepare to visit doctors, we pray against all wrong word labels that might come against us. I am not saying that we should ignore cancers and viruses, colds and broken bones but I am saying to seek the Lord first. Jack and I have been through them all and have followed treatment protocols but we always ask the Lord to do the impossible as we do the possible. I could go on but there is no need to dwell on all this negativity. My final statement lies in:

Philippians {4.8} "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things."

Parasha Tolot (Generations)

Exodus {34:21} "Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest."

Exodus {35:3} "You shall kindle no fire throughout your dwellings on the Sabbath day."

There have been many interpretations given for these passages of Scriptures. Exodus 34:21 is quite straightforward and easy to explain; we are not to work on the Shabbat! We are even told what constitutes work; work is labor, labor is anything that is not rest! However, Exodus 35:3 is a bit more difficult to interpret. So, let us take a closer look at this passage and make the effort to sort out what it means.

The first thing we are going to look at is context. Every verse has to be interpreted within its context otherwise it becomes pretext. The context of Exodus chapters 35-40 are all about building and making everything necessary for the erecting of the Tabernacle. Many people would have had to be involved in the Tabernacle's construction; silversmiths, goldsmiths, carvers, tanners, dyers of wool and so forth. Most if not all of these tasks would require fire to accomplish. In their zeal to get the job done and knowing human nature, I believe God is reminding Israel by this verse that they are not to light a fire on Shabbat for the purpose of building the Tabernacle.

Second, Shabbat is a feast day and not a fast day. When the children of Israel were told not to collect Manna on the Shabbat but rather to collect double on Friday for the Shabbat, they were not told that they were not allowed to cook the Manna, only that they were not to collect it. This explains the incident of the man collecting sticks on the Shabbat (Exodus 15:32-36); collecting was work!

Exodus {16:29} "Remember that I, the Lord, have given you a day of rest, and that is why on the sixth day I will always give you enough food for two days." (Good News Translation).

Therefore, the command not to light a fire on Shabbat, in context, is in relation to work and not cooking. Seeing as Shabbat is a Feast Day of the Lord and not a fast day, preparing and cooking food for family consumption is not labor but rather a joy of thanks giving unto the Lord. However, we are not to buy on the Shabbat, therefore, everything we may need for preparing our meals should be on hand no later than Friday before sundown.

So much to do!!! Jack and I are preparing for our trip to Kenya and it is a joy and also a source of frustration. We know we are commissioned to go by the Lord but all sorts of things are coming against us. We do not want to give the adversary too much credit because this is one being we do not want to exalt. What we know through the word is to exalt our King of Kings and praise His Holy Name. Did you know that our praise destroys the enemy and his feeble plan against us?

We heard a wonderful teaching once where the preacher found himself in a strange city, in a bad neighborhood, on a stormy night and he was frightened. Instead of giving into the fear he began to say "Father" over and over again for quite a long while until all fear passed and he was able to freely praise the Lord! So praise the Lord with me now…Lord thank you for the confirmation of our Visas for Kenya travel; Lord thank you for the complete Medical Coverage package we are to receive; Lord thank you for the return of Jack's computer in perfect working order; Lord thank you that Jack and I are in perfect health; Lord thank you that no plan of the enemy will come against us and that no voice raised up judgment will prevail…Father, Father, Father, Father, Father, praise the Lord!

Parasha Chayei Sarah (Sarah Lived)

Are you impressed by the supernatural? Well let me caution you, not all supernatural comes from God! There is another source of the supernatural and that is from Satan. God's Kingdom is a Kingdom of light and its driving force is love. Satan's kingdom is a kingdom of darkness and its driving force is hate, lies and deception. So, we can never really discern, and many times find it hard to differentiate if the supernatural being displayed, or that we are experiencing, is coming from God or Satan can manipulate and deceive us by acts of the supernatural.

There are three main branches of the supernatural; witchcraft, divination and sorcery. These three cover the whole spectrum of the Satanic supernatural. Divination's product is knowledge, sorcery's product is control, witchcraft's product is power and it operates through spells and curses. The single most powerful weapon of witchcraft is curses, we encountered curses being used in the story of Balak and Balaam.

We never know from where or from whom a curse may come through. Satan can use some of the most unsuspecting people to place curses; we may even curse ourselves. Have you ever put yourself down by saying "I'm so stupid" or "I don't remember things" or "I'm always sick," or I'm fat, etc.?" Thesput-downser put downs are curses against yourself!

How do we overcome curses? For unbelievers it is next to impossible; however, as Believers we are covered by the blood of Yeshua and there is not a curse that can penetrate past His blood. By applying the blood of Yeshua, shed for us on the cross, over ourselves in prayer on a regular basis we are secure and impervious to any curse Satan or anyone he uses against us. Concerning curses we place against ourselves; we need to stop putting ourselves down and only speak positive and blessings into our lives.

Grace–Grace-Grace!!! We all want it and we all need it. But guess what? You cannot get God's fullness of grace until you fully surrender. If you are like me you raise your hands to heaven every day and say "Lord I surrender all to You!" and as soon as a problem appears surrender goes down the drain, there is no grace and our flesh kicks into high gear and the result is failure. You know who the real culprit is? No, not the devil but pride sent by the devil! If you notice I said "who" and not what because pride is a demonic stronghold…no he does not have a body but he is a person. We need to continually be on guard…we need to be in battle array (The Armor of God) and stand up and fight. If you are trying your best to be committed and dedicated to the Lord in your life the adversary is not going to be happy or even back down until you use the authority given to you by God…use it or lose it…the choice is yours. May you have grace today to be victorious! We love you but God loves you so much more!

Parasha Vayera (And He Appeared)

Over the years I have taught that we need to be extremely careful of how we picture Yeshua. There were no cameras in those days so any effigy of how He may have looked can be very deceptive and lead us into an area controlled by Satan. For instance, many people, especially those of some denominations, hang painted or printed pictures of Yeshua on their walls. However, how would whoever made these pictures know what He looked like? Most effigies of Yeshua are based on the Shroud of Turin, supposedly the burial cloth Yeshua was wrapped in after His crucifixion, which forensic scientists have time and again concluded was artificially created. Yes, we do not know what Yeshua looked like, but Scripture is very clear about what He did not look like.

Matthew 27:35 "When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots."

This passage is talking about well-paid and smartly dressed Roman soldiers who were casting these lots for Yeshua's clothes. Therefore, if Yeshua was dressed in a drab-colored robe, as He is most often depicted in print and movies, certainly Roman soldiers would not be interested in owning or wearing it. Yeshua was called Rabbi; therefore, he would have been dressed in the fine colorful apparel which depicted a rabbi of His time.

Ezekiel 44:20 "They must not shave their heads or let their hair grow long, but they are to keep the hair of their heads trimmed."

This scripture is speaking about how the priests were to keep their hair. Yeshua as we know was God manifested in the flesh; He was the Word made flesh, as such He wrote the commandment in Ezekiel 44. Yeshua is our High Priest, yet there is not a picture or actor portraying Yeshua that does not have long hair. Satan cannot appear to us as Yeshua looked, but he can appear to us in dreams or visions as we perceive Him in the pictures we see. Be careful!

2 Corinthians 11:14 "And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light."

Sometimes I wish I was not here! In fact right now I would like to crawl into bed, under the covers and sleep so as to not have to make any decisions or even to think. Have any of you ever felt that way? I am sure you have but there is no time to do that because we want Yeshua to find us ready when He returns. You see Jack and I live in anticipation of Yeshua's return every moment of every day. We live in a fallen world, but we need to keep going, we need to fight the good fight and know with confidence that He, our Lord, has already won our battle and we reign victorious! We cannot go by natural sight and hearing. We need to depend on Yeshua for everything and see what He sees and hear what He hears so we may be able to shed the ways of this world and operate in the Spirit. It is not easy! We are not battling flesh and blood but as we steep ourselves in His Word we will make it through. Please pray for Jack and me because the devil is hearing our plans for Kenya and is not happy. He is throwing as many stumbling blocks as possible in our path, but he is little compared to our Adonai Gadol…our BIG GOD! Jack and I are doing the possible and our Abba is doing the impossible!

Parasha Lech Lecha (You Go Forth)


From Rabbi Jack...

I doubt that there is a Believer alive that has not faced obstacles, even roadblocks in their lives. Some people, when they hit a wall, throw up their hands and give up. They feel that it must not be God's will because of the opposition they are receiving. However, nothing can be farther from the truth. Obstacles and roadblocks are most often a tactic of Satan. He is the great discourager and deceiver. When God has a special plan or purpose for us he knows that he cannot stop what God intends to do, but that we can. So, Satan throws up obstacles, roadblocks in our lives to either slow us down or cause us to totally give up. There is nothing Satan would like more than to short circuit God's plans for us.

Every hero of faith in the Bible encountered obstacles which they had to overcome. King David had King Saul, the apostle Paul had the religious elite, but perhaps the person that faced the greatest obstacle or roadblock was Moses. Here he was in the Sinai Desert leading millions of murmuring Israelites, confronted by the Sea of Reeds before them and Pharaoh's army behind them. Moses could have easily and understandably thrown up his hands and given up but Moses instead shared a message he had received from God:

Exodus {14:13} "And Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. standstill, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today."

When God purposes or plans to do something in our lives, there is no obstacle that can get in His way, no demon that can discourage or deceive, all that is necessary for us to do is; "Standstill and see the deliverance of the Lord."

There are so many things to take into consideration in the way we present ourselves as Believers to those around us. So many Believers say that their lifestyle is their witness, yet fall short in that area. Let me give you some personal examples. Modesty is one. Just the other day I put on a shirt without shoulders…you know the one I mean; the shoulders are bare but there are sleeves. My tee shirt fit well, not clingy but it was wrong! We went to visit a friend who is not a Believer. I truly felt way too underdressed. As I proceeded to witness against some of the current day heresies, here I was, the one standing exposed…oy! Another example: If most of our friends are not Believers and we have told them who we are, a Believer in Yeshua, but they do not question us concerning the Lord or show any interest in our faith…mmm? One more and then off to victory…I like nice things but one of the lessons that came out of the pandemic was we really do not need as much as we think we do. Sometimes our possessions get the better of us. What we need is more of the Lord and He will show us what we need. He showed me concerning my lack of wisdom and the lack of shoulder covering in my tee shirt.

Parasha Noach (Noach)


From Rabbi Jack...

Something that Ellen often says to me when I'm doing stuff in the kitchen, and of course making a mess, "Look at the big picture." She means that I should not only be considering the food preparation but also looking ahead to the cleanup. Yes, I tend to be focused on what I am doing without considering the mess I'm making, which she eventually has to clean up, hence "the big picture." Let us face it, the kitchen is the wife's domain.

At times none of us see the big picture in our lives. We tend to focus on the minute, the hour, or the day, rarely taking into consideration where God is leading us and what He wants us to see or where He may be directing us (the big picture). We are all too often so focused on ourselves and the here and now that we fail to consider what God is seeing and what He is focused on. Every decision we make has the possibility of affecting our friends and especially our families, so we always need to see the big picture. Yes, we are so fixated on our daily lives, getting and spending, that we are neglectful of the big picture.

I am sure most have heard the saying; "Can't see the forest for the trees." Well often in our relationship with God, we are so focused on what we want (the trees) that we do not see what God wants (the forest).

Ezekiel {37:1-3} {37:1} "The hand of the Lord came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones. {37:2} Then He caused me to pass by them all around, and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and indeed, they were very dry. {37:3} And He said to me, "Son of man, can these bones live?" So, I answered, "O Lord God, You know."

Ezekiel was narrow-focused. What he saw was a pile of disjointed dried-up bones scattered over a valley, but God was seeing the big picture. God was seeing the children of Israel, a spiritually dead, dried-up nation, ready to return to life. All that was needed was for Ezekiel to see the big picture and prophesy to the bones and they would live. Never let the trees in your life obscure the forest of possibilities God has for you.

I know many people have "father" issues and I am so sorry because this could be the basis for the choices we make in life. My dad was great! Not that he did not have his own problems, but I remember the good. When I was a teenager, he gave me very wide boundaries and left me to make many of my own decisions…sometimes good and sometimes bad. My dad credited my good decisions and also acknowledged my bad and my consequences were way less than they should have been. In addition, he…and I do not know how he did it, knew where I was always, and made sure I returned safely. Sounds like a Father we all share as Believers…yes, our Heavenly Abba.

What is on my heart today is that I do not think every person who has received Yeshua as their Lord really knows how much He is our Abba! He watches over us, He directs our path, He gives us more chances than we deserve as we repent and continue to come to Him in surrender. Our Abba is here with you, and He is here with me; all we have to do is ask. My dad is not with us anymore but I think of him every day and thank God for the time we had together. Our Heavenly Abba is always with us…come to Him today and His embrace will surround you.

Parasha B'reshet (Genesis)

From Rabbi Jack...

Proverbs 13:24 "Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them."

Most often we quote this passage of scripture when we are justifying disciplining our children or when we are correcting someone for not disciplining their children. But do we realize that this verse could be speaking to us? How many times have we read in Scripture about God disciplining His children; both Israel as a nation and individuals, for the purpose of, "not sparing the rod and spoiling the child." Sure, we can quote this passage of scripture as we justify our actions or as we correct/judge others, but have we applied this scripture to ourselves and accepted and learned from the "rod" God has had to apply to us?

Many of us are going through hard and difficult times in our lives. Have we ever stopped to think that perhaps what we are experiencing is God's "rod" carefully disciplining us. God's love for us as His children far exceeds our comprehension of what love is. So, we need to remember the rod God had to use on Moses, sending him to spend forty years in Midian or the rod He had to use on Joseph in sending him into slavery or the rod He had to use on Aaron, King David, Peter, John and Paul. All the people I mentioned received God's "rod" and grew from it; becoming a better leader, a humbler brother, a committed Priest, a devoted King and bold apostles. It is one thing to receive God's rod and grow bitter like King Saul, but it is a far greater thing to receive God's rod and grow better from it like King David.

God disciplines us so that we will change and He prunes us or that we can produce more fruit. The spirit is always going to be waring against the flesh, which means none of us while on earth are going to be spared God's "rod"!

How great is our God!!! During Sukkot Yeshua tabernacled with us symbolically for seven days and then an eighth day. Our glorious Abba gave us one more day because He loves us so much. I am not saying that God is not with us every day but I think it is important to speak of the eighth day.

Of course, we had great services with all our Zoom family but more so, it was such a joy to see those who gathered together in fellowship. Guess what? Abba gives us this same opportunity each week…Sunday! On resurrection day, which was a Sunday then, Yeshua broke through sin, disease, torment and so much more on the eighth day as He resurrected. Do you see that each time the sun sets on Shabbat and we all say Shavua tov, 'have a great week,' we enter into the eighth day (Sunday), once again. It is a symbol that we can face another tension filled week with great anticipation, to break through all the sin, disease and torment in our own lives.

Sunday here in Israel is Yom Rishon, meaning the first day of the week. If we begin another cycle to the next Shabbat that is what it is…but if we remember the Shabbat and walk into the next day as the eighth day then we are able with the help of the Holy Spirit to have break a through!
